Express Yourself
I had to leave Creede early this year to head back to work, but Scott and Carter stayed for the rest of the time. Carter finished up the week by making some cupcakes with Aunt Susan.
Aunt Susan is a preschool teacher and is very good at letting Carter express himself in his work. He was allowed to make a cupcake however he wanted. There was some leftover food he decided to add to his cupcake. So...Carter made a lovely turkey dinner leftovers cupcake. Keep in mind however that the mix was strawberry. :) He was very proud of it.

Not Right Now
Carter had his picture taken a few times in Creede and by the end, he was telling everyone "not right now" a lot. These pictures truly capture that. :) He was a good trooper to put up with everyone.
The Drive
Pretty much every year, we end up taking a drive up the Bachelor Loop. It is a road that drives by old mines. Carter was able to get out this year and take a look around.
After stopping at the mines, we made another couple stops to hike around a little, throw some rocks, one of Carter's favorite activities, and take in the gorgeous view.

Hooked on Fun
Day four in Creede was filled with more fishing and fun. There is a small stocked pond on the grounds of the place we stay. Carter was okay with fishing for a little bit, but it was slow going. Carter filled the time with some rock throwing. Not the perfect match for fishing. :)
He did end up catching a fish though and was beyond excited to go take his fish in the cooler back to the house to show everyone.
Since it was a pretty warm day, he got out his rubberband plane, water rocket and water guns to have some more fun. The grassy area in front of the house is perfect for all of these activities. Another full day!

A Day in the Life of a Three Year Old
There is always lots of fishing in Creede. Carter practiced with his rod and casting frog at home so he would be ready for Creede. He was very excited for his first trip out on the boat. He was definitely more in to it this year. He was ready to go when we left early.
Lots of fishing was done with dad and Pa Tom.
Carter's techniques were...interesting.
He even helped clean the fish when we got back, and had no issue with it.
Nothing follows a good day of fishing better than some kite flying. The joy and excitement on Carter's face and in his actions was wonderful.

Creede 2014 - First Day of Fun
After finishing up from our first camping trip, we headed to Creede. After settling in the first day, Carter was up ready to go the next morning and instantly in rare form.
We headed in to town for lunch at our favorite restaurant, Kips. Carter was more interested in playing shuffleboard and being the hit at the bar than eating though.
After feeding the goat some crackers, we finished up the day with family around the bonfire (and some yoga). It was a good day.

The Great Outdoors
While Scott hiked the 14er, Carter and I decided to hang out, clean up the campsite and do a little hiking of our own. There was a lake nearby that we headed to to throw rocks. We also fed the fish some graham crackers, that they really seemed to like.
After a little rock throwing, we went to the trailhead to wait for Scott and do a little hiking of our own. We didn't go very far and there was more rock throwing that happened, but we had a good time. It was a gorgeous spot.

Calling All Campers
We decided to do our drive to Creede this year a little differently. There are a bunch of 14ers on the way down to Creede. Scott decided he would like to stop on the way down and climb one. In order to be safe when climbing, you have to start REALLY early in the morning and get off the mountain before afternoon storms start. Since this was the case, we decided it might be fun to camp with Carter the night before.
This was Carter's first camping trip and he had a great time. We didn't get there until late afternoon. He helped set up the tent and start the fire. We had some s'mores (also a first for Carter) and then went to the bed in the tent. Carter was thrilled about the tent. Not much sleeping happened for me, but Carter and Scott did okay. It was a fun memory.
