Earlier this week, we decided it was time to stop swaddling Carter at night. He has never been swaddled during naps, so we knew he could sleep without it, but he liked having it at night. This decision was made because lately, every time we would go in to get him up in the morning or feed him at night, he would have his arms out of the swaddler. He is a little Houdini.
Since he was already escaping and awake most times because of it, we decided now was the time to work on it. He has become such a wiggler though, blankets don't work very well either because he just gets them up over his face and that also wakes him up. So, we switched to the sleep sack. It is essentially a zip up blanket that you wear. I need to take a picture of him in it. It leaves his arms loose and he can move around in it so he isn't "tied down" any more.
We started it on Monday and Tuesday night, Wednesday night and last night he has slept all night. Wednesday morning he didn't wake up until about 7am. We chalked this up as a fluke though, because he didn't go to bed until late Tuesday night after the extended baseball game. However, the last two nights he has gone to bed around 8:30 or 9pm and slept until about 5:30am! I know I am jinxing us by saying this out loud and writing it down ,but I am doing it for two reasons: 1) I want to remember this moment that he started (we'll see if it lasts) sleeping through the night and 2) he will be out of his bed this weekend so I know it will probably knock him off his normal routine and out of his normal surroundings and we will have to start again so it doesn't matter if I say it. For now though, it is nice to think about it and smile!
