Carter's First NFL Game

Unfortunately for Carter, he lives in a split household. This is something he will have to live with his entire life. Scott and I both fully support whichever team he might choose to follow, but we all know who the better choice would be.

Carter attended his first NFL game. It was a preseason game, so he will have to make it to another one in the future to say he has been to a regular season game. Since it is only August, it was pretty warm at the game. Not true football weather, but better for a 5 month old.

We went to a Mexican restaurant called La Loma beforehand to grab some dinner. The restaurant is pretty close to the stadium and has a school bus that shuttles people down to the game. You can see in the picture how excited Carter was to be on the bus. Maybe he knows he is a teacher's kid. :)

We got to the stadium and had to make a quick stop at the team store to get official Bronco wear for the game. Carter already has enough Bronco stuff, but it was either too big or winter clothing. He did have a T-shirt on to go to the game, but needed something a little different. We got to our seats and Carter was instantly looking at everything happening around him. He especially loved the jumbo tron. As usual, he was a hit with all the people sitting around us. He always has a smile on his face, so he is definitely approachable. :) Recently though, he has started to show some signs of stranger anxiety. Nothing huge, you can just see the look on his face turn to slight concern.

Carter did great at the game. He made it until the third quarter when the preseason game got a little boring and he fell asleep. He stayed asleep through people cheering, etc. Now, if only we could figure out how to make that last all night.

Here are a few pics of him from the game.

Milestones

First tooth and his second is coming in right beside it. Sitting up with the Boppy. Still working on doing it alone. Rolling over, although stopping halfway through seems like the better option.

FIVE Months Old

Carter is FIVE months old. So much is changing all the time lately and new things are happening every day. It is so fun watching it all happen.

Carter at five months you:

-are such a happy baby.
-smile when anyone talks to you. You definitely don't have stranger anxiety yet.
-have moved quickly up in diaper sizes and now wear a size 3. You should be able to stay in this size for a little while.
-have also moved up in your clothes size and are wearing 6mths or 6-9mths.
-still have blue eyes.
-have lots more hair. It has grown a lot lately.
-reach for everything. You want anything in range.
-have a tooth coming in.
-scream really loud to get peoples attention.
-have the cutest laugh.
-are very ticklish.

We can't imagine our life without you and love seeing you grow and learn.

First Tooth

On the way to the airport, to come home from San Diego, Carter was playing with a water bottle. Everything he can get his hands on goes directly in to his mouth now. This was no different. When he put the top in his mouth, I heard it hit something though. I looked in his mouth and there was the top of a shiny white tooth sticking up. His first tooth has started to come in and besides being extra drooly and his nose running a little bit, you would never know it. He isn't overly fussy like some kids get.

The tooth is one of his bottom front two. It isn't up all the way yet, so it is hard to catch a glimpse, but it is pretty cute when you do. He either puts his tongue over it when you try to look, or closes his mouth. I have been trying to get a picture of it, but am still unsuccessful. These are a couple of the attempt pictures that just make me laugh. I will continue to try and get one of the tooth though.

Daycare Begins

Monday, August 15th was Carter's first day of daycare at Grammy Lu's Kiducation.

Scott and I visited a few different places before finding out about Grammy Lu. We looked at both centers and in-home daycare, but I have a special fondness to in-home daycare from being around it all my life. We had not found a place that was going to work yet, when one of our neighbors said the lady next to her did daycare. We were excited to have another place to check, but didn't get our hopes up.

I called Grammy Lu to check and she said there were no spots available. We were back to square one. The next day, I had a message on my phone from Grammy Lu saying she had checked her records and since we didn't need care until mid-August, one of her other little kids would turn 2 by then and she could take on another infant. We were thrilled and scheduled a time to meet with her. The three of us went over, met with her and thought it sounded great for Carter...and us. We filled out all the paperwork, got him on the list and he started there Monday.

One of the great things we love about Grammy Lu's is that it is THREE houses up from ours. The proximity to the house can't be beat. It allows us more time with Carter when we get home because there isn't a long commute between. It also allows for craziness in the morning.

The first day of daycare came and it started with a bang. We got up, got ready and were getting everything together when Carter had a blowout. Back upstairs we went to clean him up and change his clothes. After I got him put back together, I picked him up to go downstairs and he spit up all down my shirt. So, outfit number two for me also. There were wardorobe changes for both of us, but after that we finally got out the door. We obviously weren't in a very good routine yet. I dropped Carter off and it was hard but I did okay. I think going back to work two months before he actually had to start helped. Had all that happened on my first day back to work, I think I would have pulled back in the garage and stayed home. Carter did pretty good at daycare, but didn't sleep very well.

Day 2 of daycare came and we did better getting out of the house, but at about noon that day, one of my coworkers informed me that my shirt was inside out! It would not have been a big deal but I had a collared half button down shirt on so it looked ridiculous. I am not sure how I didn't notice, or Scott didn't that morning before we left. It made me laugh outloud at myself. Carter did great again, but still didn't sleep well.

We were slightly concerned about the sleeping thing because when he doesn't sleep well during the day, he doesn't at night either. It wasn't going to be fun if this continued. Grammy Lu decided on a different sleeping arrangment for him starting on Wednesday and since then, his sleeping has been much better. So far, everything is going well. I drop Carter off in the morning and Scott picks him up in the afternoon, unless he has to stay late at work. We hope it continues to go as well as it has, and he will love going there as he gets older.

These are just a couple pictures of Carter the first morning of daycare before we left the house. This was outfit number 2.

A Loud Voice

If you are in range of our house or out and about with us lately, you may be able to hear a loud little voice coming from the baby with us. :) Carter has decided he has found his voice and wants to make sure everyone else can hear him as well. This was him in the airport on the way back from San Diego. We definitely gots some looks in the airport. They were probably hoping they didn't have to sit next to this for 2 hours even though he slept the whole way back. :)

San Diego Part 3

On Sunday we headed down to La Jolla to check out the seals and walk around the area. The seal beach is now open to the public and you can swim right next to the seals. We didn't have enough time or the gear to do it, but I think if we had, we would have been right in the water. We did walk out on the rock wall though to check everything out and Carter was fascinated with the water. He didn't like it too much when the wave hit the wall and the water/mist splashed up on him. He is definitely against the cold water of the Pacific. Maybe when he gets older, he just won't care. After we went to La Jolla, we met up with a girlfriend of mine from grade school, Kristen, and her family. Ella and Noemi are 4 1/2 and 1 1/2 and are so cute. We had lunch in the Gaslamp area with them and got some ice cream before we had to head to the airport to come back home.

Needless to say, it was a busy weekend, but great to see family and friends and get to spend some time with them. We were ready to be home though because it was a LATE night as evidenced by the sleepers on the plane.

The Cutest Baby and Feet on the Beach

Love this picture of Carter's sandy feet!

San Diego Part 2

On Saturday we headed over to Coronado to see Great Uncle Jean and Aunt Sara. Scott's cousin Dave and his wife Susan also came down for the day to hang out. It was a beautiful day on Coronado. We headed down to the beach and Carter got his first beach experience. He had actually been to Pacific Beach the day before, but slept the whole time we walked around. He wasn't too fond of the cold water, but he did like watching the waves and feeling the sand on his feet. There are two pictures of him with his feet in the water. The first was when he was initally put in and the second shows his reaction. It is kind of hard to see in the pics because some are a little dark. On this post or any of the posts, you should be able to click on a picture and make it bigger. Warning: Lots of pictures in this post.

San Diego Part 1

The three of us headed out for a short weekend trip to San Diego to see family and friends. We left EARLY Friday morning and came back LATE Sunday night. Friday morning we were up and out the door by 4:30am for our 6:45am flight. It was rough by itself, but Scott and I had been to the Sade concert the night before and didn't get home until 1am. Carter was up shortly after that so there wasn't much sleep before heading out to the airport.

We got in to San Diego early on Friday so we had the whole day to hang out. My brother (Uncle Joe) picked us up at the airport and we were able to spend the day with him. Carter wants everything we have lately and beer at the restaurant was no exception.

A Visit with Cousin Grady

We headed out to Broomfield to see cousins Tiffany, Kris and Grady. We were able to go up to their new place, have dinner and hang out for a little bit. Tiff and Kris got pizza and we had a good time. They haven't been in their place very long, but it looks great. They are getting ready for baby #2 soon, so we will have to go visit again after he or she arrives.

Carter was definitely interested in what Grady was up to. He watched what he was doing and took it all in. He also really liked lying on the floor and watching TV at the house also. I think Carter might have a TV problem. :)

Carter definitely has cousins to play with, which is great. We all just need to get together more often so they (Grady, Isla, Carter and the new baby) can be just like I was with my cousins when we were younger. We loved playing together and I hope Carter and his cousins will too. We are next on the hosting round and will have to have everybody over very soon.

A Rockhurst Night at the Ballgame

In keeping Carter on track to possibly make it to 10 baseball games in the first few months of life, we headed out to another baseball game. Rockhurst hosted an alumni event in Denver and it was at the Rockies v. Nationals game. Neither Scott nor I have attended any Rockhurst alumni events and there are rarely, if ever, events in Denver so we decided it would be good to go.

We have some friends from college that also live in Denver and we thought it would be a great opportunity to meet up with them. Everyone sitting around us at the game was talking to Carter and wanted to hold him. He loved it. He would love to have someone sit and talk to him most of the day now. It was a perfect night at the game. This was Carter's 5th major league game, so we are up to 6 baseball games total now, including the 1 minor league game. He has at least a couple more coming up so who knows if we will make it to 10 games or not.

These pictures are of Carter with Brian Natale, a guy from Rockhurst that graduated with me. He was crazy in college and still is today. We will have to be careful with Carter around him in the future. Who knows what he will teach him. :)

A Visit with Cousin Isla

We headed down the street to have dinner with cousins Ashley and Isla. Brandon was out for the evening, so we will have to meet up with them again soon to see him. Great Aunt Gayla and Uncle Dan (my aunt and uncle) were there also, so we were able to see all of them.

It was a great Taco Tuesday dinner hosted by Ashley. We live very close to each other, so we definitely need to get these two together to play more often. We are not taking advantage of the proximity between us while we have it. Carter is so interested in other little kids lately and Isla was no exception.
