Have Your Cake and Eat it Too

We decided to make our own birthday cake for Carter and have cupcakes for everyone else. We did white cake with vanilla frosting and a blueberry filling, since he loves blueberries.

The cake was a little heavy for him to pick up, but he managed it just fine. He chose to pick all the blueberries off of the top first. He also wanted to use utensils to maneuver the cake and eat it too. He is very in to utensils right now and thinks he can feed himself. We are still working on mastering this skill.

He is skilled at feeding Eddie from his seat though.

After he finished his cake, he got cleaned up in the sink and put on his PJs. It was a great finish to the day.

Present Time

Carter asked for lots of books for his birthday and that is definitely what he got. We have lots of reading to do now, which is great, because we are hoping to create a little reading nook/corner in his room. Scott and I also got Carter some letter and number magnets and alphabet blocks. We wanted to get him some educational toys for his birthday while he still doesn't quite know it.

One more post with cake pictures to round out the birthday party extravaganza.

Cute as a Button

For Carter's birthday party, we went with Cute as a Button for the theme. In preparation for his party, Carter took two good naps, and was ready to go when he got up. He got all dressed in his hat and tie.

We did appetizers, drinks and cake and decided to decorate and make the food ourselves. We wanted to have something special for his first birthday and I think he liked it.

More pictures to come.

My Own Swing

We finally got Carter's swing hung up at the house and now he wants to swing all the time. He is a little daredevil and loves to swing really high. Eddie also likes to lay right under the swing...even though the swing catches his head every so often. He still just lies there.

A Special Package

A package arrived in the mail for Carter postmarked from Chicago. When we opened it up, this is what we found. Thanks a lot Gaubatzs'. We are not sure how we feel about this. :)

Table Etiquette

This is what happens with an almost one year old learning how to feed himself, using silverware, and dinner at a Mexican restaurant. This isn't an ideal look in public. We are still working on this skill...obviously.
